Hanna’s Household

Hanna and Gaston have been married for about 20 years. Before marrying, Gaston was in a serious accident that left him with a major back injury that has caused him significant pain and discomfort since. They have three grown children; one daughter lives nearby. Hanna’s brother, Harvey lives with Hanna and Gaston. He has intractable epilepsy, Parkinsonism, and other serious health conditions. Gaston and Hanna care for Harvey equally, but as Gaston ages and his pain from his past injuries intensify, Hanna considers the additional caring she’ll need to take on.

At the core of Hanna and Gaston’s care map is the caring for, watching over, and interacting with Harvey. Most weekdays, Harvey goes to a day care facility nearby and his church provides support by sending DVDs of sermons so he can attend church remotely. Five doctors occasionally care for Harvey.

Gaston sees two doctors and a massage therapist. He also interacts with a few online communities. Gaston also provides daily support to his mother who lives nearby but independently. She has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD, suffered a stroke five years ago, and broke a leg last year. Hannah gets support from Gaston as well as her daughter who lives nearby.
