Nadine’s Household

Nadine (50s) lives with her husband Jerry and two teenage sons, Larry and Karl. Karl has Type 1 Diabetes. Nadine is his primary caregiver.

Karl was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when he was four. Now a teenager, Karl is more involved in his own care. He checks his glucose levels regular and self-administers glucose pills when needed. However, Nadine still bears primary responsibility for his health.

Karl wears a continuous glucose monitor. Nadine regularly monitors Karl’s glucose levels throughout the day on her mobile phone and communicates with him as needed. Jerry provides additional support, but feels less comfortable with the caregiving responsibilities than Nadine.

In addition, two immediate neighbors and a nearby friend, all trained in basic T1D management, can help when needed.

Nadine herself gets support from friends and several online and local groups.
